Il Pastaio Restaurant Review: Reasonably priced Italian cuisine --- a bit more interesting than the standard trattoria fare, including regional specialties from owner Giacomino Drago's native Sicily --- is the trademark of this crowded and casual establishment. Giacomino is the youngest brother of Celestino, whose DRAGO Centro is among the city’s best Italian eateries. The beef carpaccio is very good, ditto for the big-eye tuna and smoked swordfish versions. The fresh handmade pastas alone (i.e., pumpkin tortelloni with creamy sage sauce, pappardelle with venison-porcini ragù) make a trip here worthwhile. We also recommend the risotto with wild mushrooms and truffle-flavored cheese fondue. As at most Drago family-operated establishments, you can't go wrong with tiramisu or panna cotta, both wonderful finishes at this lively eatery that represents one of the better values in Beverly Hills. The sidewalk patio is great for people-watching. The restaurant has been here since 1993, proving that Giacomino has found a good formula. You may leave with his pasta kit, pasta sauces and olive oil.
