Imo's Pizza Restaurant Review: Even here in deepest South St. Louis, where ethnic food has permeated nearly every block, Imo’s fills a niche craving for St. Louis-style pizza. Overlook the nonexistent décor: Imo's is a St. Louis tradition for the food, not the setting. The pizza causes no ambivalence---it's either loved or hated. Key components are a cracker-thin crust, square pieces, a sweet-tangy tomato sauce and gobs of Provel cheese (a gooey, tooth-sticking combination of cheddar, Swiss and provolone that’s unique to St. Louis). House salads, festooned with more of the same cheese, are simple but not bad, except for the sweet house dressing. Provel also features heavily in the pastas and sandwiches, and it does melt nicely over salsiccia. Imo’s has embraced technology, with online ordering and daily specials revealed via social media sites (and, at this location, free WiFi). |
