| Behind the Hawaii Theatre, Indigo is in an historic Chinatown storefront that has been transformed by track lighting and art into one of the nicest dining rooms in town. While we like the interior, we urge you to book a courtyard seat outside if available. Prepare yourself for some interesting dining. Proprietor-chef Glenn Chu is a master of East-West synthesis, and we could make a meal out of his dim sum nouveau---his goat cheese wontons with four fruit sauce, his gin doi filled with roast duck and apricots, and his spicy lamb shu mai dumplings with ginger-mint sauce. To do so, though, would mean missing his pizzas---Peking duck, spicy chicken and whatever strikes his fancy. We also suggest what Chu calls his large platters---Shanghai mahogany duck with fresh berries, fresh fish roasted in banana leaves, and pepper-crusted ahi steak. So the more people you bring, the more dishes you can sample. The wine list is heavy on California Chardonnays, but we prefer a fruity white or a soft red with this food. |
