THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Intermezzo Restaurant Review:
The airy loft setting with brick walls and glossy parquet floors is lavished with original art. Its floor-to-ceiling windows look out on tiny Harmonie Park, an urban oasis. This is often the liveliest place downtown, with its clientele of city movers and shakers whose table-hopping is as customary as the ordering of tri-colored tortellini, osso buco Milanese and the house thin-crusted pizzas from a menu that roams across the Italian landscape. This is a popular pre-theatre choice for several venues including the Gem and Century Theatres, and the Detroit Opera House (pasta DiChieri, an oil and garlic toss with spaghetti, is named for the director of the opera house), just a short walk. Chef-proprietor Nick Apone is a genial host, often wandering the dining room to make sure things are running smoothly. The adjoining bar, where there is live music on Friday and Saturday evenings, draws its own lively crowd.
