Invictus Restaurant Review:

Named after a Clint Eastwood movie, this congenial restaurant is helmed by Christophe Chabanel. The setting is nondescript yet comfortable, with brown banquettes, a wooden floor and a huge wall mirror. The chef, who learned his trade with Jean-Pierre Vigato at Apicius and worked for several years in South Africa, delivers sound dishes with an accent on tasty dressings. Along with daily specials such as rib steak, the menu includes an assortment of vegetables (beets, chicory, asparagus, artichokes and tomatoes served with burrata cheese and basil vinaigrette) and a finely oven-cooked cod with preserved lemon and purée. The signature dessert turns out to be a tad disappointing, a millefeuille with topnotch vanilla but a too thick puff pastry. Professional staff and a terse wine list with a half dozen items available by the glass.
