 I'o Restaurant Review: This is stylish dining to the max. You come to beachfront I'o to look as well as to eat. The décor is modern and understated, but very chic, with marine life etched into glass windows and an open-air dining room that seems to invite in the ocean. The menu features cutting-edge fare, and the martini bar is topnotch, with martinis matched to every course. Try the zippy Spicetini, made with Absolut Peppar and jalapeño juice before dinner, and the chocolate martini for dessert. You can eat outside on the patio, literally steps from the water's edge, but the view from inside is just as good. To start, try the cowboy ribs glazed with hoisin sauce and topped with a green-apple confit. The fresh catch is always a good bet with several eclectic preparations from which to choose, and produce from the chef's garden in Kula nicely accents every entrée. There’s also an innovative Crudo Menu that features whatever fresh, raw ingredients strikes the chef's fancy that day. We recommend the refreshing Thai Ribbons, paper-thin strips of ahi sashimi and shaved green papaya mixed with lemon grass and Thai basil. The menu suggests a different wine by the glass with each course. For dessert, the Puna goat-cheese ice cream is a good choice. |
