| The Iron Horse Tavern fills a warm space in a 130-year-old building in downtown Norcross. Exposed brick and old wood are brought up-to-date by the addition of flat-screen TVs. A large patio serves as the focal point in good weather; in cold weather, it’s the fireplace. Patrons---including a good many from the British Isles---gather for games of Trivial Pursuit, to throw darts, and to enjoy such pub stalwarts as a lamb-centered shepherd's pie in summer and lamb-based Irish stew in winter. There are a dozen brews on draught and out of the bottle at least another 20. Desserts get short shrift, but with other solid offerings, it doesn’t matter. The place is non-smoking until after 10 p.m. Owner Huw Thomas is an Irishman who’s got a sound sense of proper Irish pub fare. |
