Istanbul Cafe Restaurant Review: Nestled in a neighborhood shopping strip, this intimate dining spot with authentic Turkish cuisine is a true find. High-back booths, cloth-covered tables, dark woods, floor-to-ceiling windows and, on most nights, polished service create a European feel. The signature shepherd chopped salad is ample enough to share for a starter. Regulars come just for the iskander kebab that has slices of lamb and beef smothered in rich tomato sauce and accompanied with cool yogurt. On the lighter side are the well-seasoned chicken kebabs teamed with rice pilaf and sautéed vegetables or the tilapia broiled with lemon and capers. Consider nightly specials, too, especially the rack of lamb and lamb shanks. Turkish coffee and creamy rice pudding make an ideal dessert, unless the house-made layered chocolate nut cake is on the menu, which is also a lovely finale to a leisurely meal.
