Istanbul Grill Restaurant Review: This simple little eatery in the Village is one of only a handful of Turkish restaurants in town. The handsome brick oven turns out pide (a puffy, dense bread sprinkled with sesame seeds), while the shepherd's salad is a cool, refreshing mix of minced cucumbers, tomatoes, green peppers and onions tossed with olive oil and vinegar and sprinkled with feta. Fans of Middle Eastern food will find familiar staples like hummus, grape leaves, fine treatments of eggplant and well-executed kebabs --- but we recommend trying the uniquely Turkish items. The lahmacun is one of our favorites, with finely chopped lamb and a combination of tomato, green pepper, parsley and garlic spread over a thin and crisp hand-rolled dough, served straight from the oven. The prices are as appealing as the unique food. Pastries, rich Turkish coffee and strong, soothing Turkish tea complement any meal. |
