| Located in the same building as Janos Wilder’s namesake restaurant, J Bar is the chef's more casual (but still chic) sibling. J Bar offers a modern take on Mexican cuisine, much of it inspired by Sonora, Arizona’s Mexican neighbor. Antojitos, or appetizers, include a killer guacamole or a luscious autumn squash soup with caramelized apple and pomegranate. Entrées might include the Janos combo plate with a seasonal chef’s creation. A happy hour must is Wilder’s spin on a Mexican street cart favorite: the Sonoran hot dog. Deftly grilled, paved with chorizo-laced black beans, cheese, bacon, thick whole-grain mustard, ketchup and mayo, it's thrust between a super soft bun procured from a nearby Mexican bakery. For dessert, try the signature dark chocolate jalapeño ice cream sundae---spicy, sweet and big enough to share. The dining room, hued with splashes of desert sunset colors, is always convivial, but the patio is open almost year-round and offers great sunset views. |
