| Chef-owner Robert Benson displays some of his New Orleans heritage on the menu of this cozy, unpretentious eatery in the heart of Beverly Hills. With its beadboard wainscoting, playful art and roomy booths, J&J’s is a comfortable spot to enjoy the hearty breakfasts that this place is renowned for: eggs Benedict, cinnamon croissant french toast, or yogurt- and berry-filled crêpes. Lunch features barbecued ribs and chicken with all the trimmings, burgers, savory crêpes or fried chicken sliders, before finishing with sweet crêpes or house-made red velvet cake. The Louisiana-style gumbo---thick, hearty and spicy without being too-hot-to-handle---is served over rice; a bowl of it makes for a filling lunch. Considering this place is just steps from the front doors of Prada and Louis Vuitton, it offers great value without a hint of attitude. |
