Jack Sprat Restaurant Review: Jack Sprat is housed in an enchanting A-frame structure under the Northern lights south of Anchorage. Chef de cuisine Chris Rattaro and owners Frans and Jennifer Weits go out of their way to utilize seasonal, organic and/or local produce and seafood in their healthful cuisine. The restaurant’s motto --- “Fat & Lean World Cuisine" --- sets the stage for an eclectic menu that offers a little something for everyone. Favorites include rice wraps made with soba noodles and spring vegetables paired with an orange-cucumber Thai chili sauce, and entrées such as an organic braised chicken breast paired with Sicilian caponata and sautéed spinach, and the Blue Mesa Ranch burger, a satisfying half-pound Black Angus beef burger served with smoked onion confit, bacon, tomato slices, greens and yam fries. The diverse kids’ menu has choices ranging from “trees and cheese” (steamed broccolini with a cheese sauce) to an organic cheeseburger, also paired with yam fries. Beer fans will discover both German and Alaskan brews on tap, while the wine selection is varied and affordable.
