THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Jade Garden Restaurant Review: St. Louis' growing taste for Asian food is rewarded at the Jade Garden with two menus---and the Chinese one is translated into English. There are all the standard items---e.g. beef with broccoli, egg rolls---all competently executed. But look more closely for dishes that don't pop up elsewhere, like tangy Ma La lamb and a superior presentation of a whole fish, delicate and almost sweet. Spicy Szechuan sauces can also be requested on other meats as can dishes with XO sauce, which make only fleeting appearances on most St. Louis menus. On the Chinese menu, things like shrimp with hot sauce and shredded duck soup fly into the diner's mouth. The décor is unremarkable except for a fish tank with a few immense and ruffled fish. Lots of tables of Chinese students and a steady carry-out business keep things humming in the bi-level interior. Wheelchair access, alas, seems to be impossible.
