THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED James Republic Restaurant Review:

Though he manages restaurants all over the nation, this one in particular is the namesake of chef Dean James Max. The modern-looking establishment has an airy atmosphere that seamlessly blends together a large patio and sleek dining room. Cocktails are intriguing, with options like the seasonal Ask Your Pharmacist (gin and dandelion tonic with amaro, sage and lime) and the tiki-inspired The Devil Drinks Guava (white rum, guava, rum, lemon and egg white). In addition, a concise wine list includes some hard-to-find California producers. In terms of dishes, the menu is small but approachable. Kick things off with a mix-and-match board of rather good cheese and meat selections. Those in the mood for a healthy bite can dig into a kale salad with pickled cranberries and pomegranate or a satisfying bowl of sunchoke soup with roasted pumpkin and pepitas. Enjoyable large plates include a black cod papillote with artichoke and fingerling potatoes, oxtail cavatelli, and smoked rabbit andouille gumbo. For dessert, try the hazelnut brown butter cake. Early risers can swing by to enjoy intriguing breakfast items like mole verde chilaquiles.
