Jeffrey's Grocery Restaurant is one of our 2012
| Top 10 NY Value Restaurants
|
| Situated in an off-the-beaten-path space in the West Village, Jeffrey’s Grocery was immediately embraced by the area. That’s because restaurateur Gabriel Stulman seems to have perfected the art of the neighborhood restaurant (his other popular spot, Joseph Leonard, is across the street). Set up like a small market (hence the name), the restaurant is essentially a long bar and a communal table. People pop in to buy one dollar cups of Stumptown Coffee and freshly baked goods and others stay awhile indulging in a menu heavy on seasonal fare that offers various types of oysters and fresh meaty sandwiches as well as pâtés and charcuterie. In the evening, the hearty fare is trotted out, such as a thick Berkshire pork chop and a juicy braised brisket sandwich. Booze comes in the form of local craft beers and a well-edited selection of vino from local and small producers. |
