Jim 'N Nick's Bar-B-Q Restaurant Review: Jim 'N Nick's, founded in Birmingham, Ala., wastes no time cultivating your delight: sweet, steaming cheese biscuits arrive at the table within minutes of your arrival. The barbecue shows the telltale pink "smoke ring," a sure sign of a long spell over slow-burning wood. The spareribs are especially good --- tender but not overcooked, shot through with a lovely smokiness. If you're not out for just plain ’cue, try what they call a “Bar-B-Que Baker,” an enormous loaded baked potato piled with smoked meat. There’s also a burger topped with pimento cheese, grilled catfish and a selection of sandwiches. For dessert, we suggest the house-made lemon icebox, chocolate cream or banana cream pies. The brief wine list offers a Seghesio Zinfandel that ought to pair well with the barbecue, or try a Tennessee-brewed Yazoo beer. Other locations.
