Jimmy's No. 43 Restaurant is one of our 2012
| Top 10 NY Gastropub Restaurants
|
The name Jimmy's No. 43 doesn't exactly take you back to those pubs in Europe where you've spent long nights lounging over beer and better-than-average pub grub. But once you step down into Jimmy Carbone's eponymous eatery (it's in the basement below Standings), you'll be whisked back to the continent in no time. Dark paneled and white stuccoed walls, gothic arches and a maze of rooms make this East Village gastropub ooze with ambience, inspiring round after round of beer (ten are on tap, many of which are rarely found in the U.S.). The daily-changing menu features hearty delights influenced by both sides of the Alps and could include skillet-fried beer sausages, shrimp and grits seasoned with hickory bacon and scallions, or lamb chorizo with arugula, fennel and tzatziki---all perfect for a cold night. The generous special of the house---one cold plate, one hot plate and two glasses of beer---can't be beat.
