A Bronx institution, Jimmy’s Bronx Café is more than just a restaurant. The nondescript, freestanding building houses a sports bar, nightclub and banquet room and has become one of the most festive and well-known joints in the borough. The club hosts a wide range of events featuring many Latino artists. The restaurant serves American fare accented with a healthy dose of Caribbean. Several of the appetizers (such as the chicken wings, fried calamari and clams casino) are great for sharing. From there move on to filet mignon, shrimp in Creole tomato sauce or fried red snapper, all served with sweet plantains and rice and beans. Jimmy’s Uptown, a Harlem branch, opened which also has become a popular Uptown watering hole. Jimmy’s Uptown is located in Manhattan at 2207 Adam Clayton Powell Blvd., 212-491-4000.
