Joe's Garage Restaurant Review: Inventive burgers, an unparalleled rooftop with downtown Minneapolis sparkling in the distance and a knock-out strawberry shortcake with mascarpone, caramelized cream, fresh strawberries and raspberry sauce---these are the reasons why a visit Joe's Garage is always near the top of our summer to-do list. The pesto turkey burger is an aromatic affair when topped with caramelized onions and roasted mushrooms. Even an old-fashioned beef burger doesn't escape without flair. In this case, it’s a dollop of garlicky aïoli. For those who aren't in the mood to try a burger with an interesting pedigree, we recommend the pastas and risottos. Tortellini carbonara is a spicy concoction with cappicola ham and peas---all tossed together with a creamy white wine sauce. Mushroom aficionados will appreciate the risotto champignon, a mixture of shiitake and roasted jumbo mushrooms, spinach, sun-dried tomatoes and Gorgonzola scattered with crispy fried onions. Joe's interior boasts multiple levels and a friendly bar, but the atmosphere downstairs doesn't quite live up to the conviviality of the rooftop deck, which is perfect for basking in the sun or howling at the moon. |
