THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Joey & Eddie's Italian Restaurant Restaurant Review:

This large and atmospheric Italian-American venue (the site of Moose’s restaurant for many years) spreads out over the top of Washington Square Park in North Beach, beckoning visiting groups and families from the sidewalk with wide windows, patio seating and neon signage. Inside, it’s a big place in which to eat big (almost monstrous) plates of food, preferably passed at a table with lots of people---a spaghetti-and-meatballs, family-supper type of place, with a full bar, blood-red banquettes, high velvet curtains and group-sized tables. Aiming for an East Coast-style authenticity, Bronx-born chef Joseph “Joey” Manzare (Zuppa, Tres Agaves, Hecho) and his partner Eddie Maiello have almost succeeded---hot plates of sweet Italian sausage, baked clams, and pastas loaded with garlic lead up to shareable portions of functional chicken Parm, saltimbocca and the like. Most plates are offered in two sizes, small-big and big-big, and a good, sophisticated wine sheet reminds diners where they really are. What’s lacking is a warm and together staff, better prices and a sense of soul.
