| Every neighborhood needs a casual “let’s just grab brunch or dinner” place, and Johnny Mack’s is that kind of gastropub in Park Slope. With a billiard table and video game set-up in the middle room, diners can spend their brief waiting time having a bit of fun before the solid American comfort dishes start to arrive. A barbecue pulled pork sandwich with tangy coleslaw or a spinach and Gorgonzola salad are good choices alongside heartier dishes like home-style meatloaf or seafood linguine. Giant Bloody Marys made with a huge stalk of celery and the right spike of horseradish and a nice selection of beers on draught are offered along with wines by the glass. There’s something for everyone’s taste here, from thin-crust pizzas prepared to an exact crispness to the most expensive item on the menu, the grilled shell steak. Desserts include ice cream parlor favorites like root beer floats and banana splits. Don’t even think of dressing up---you’ll feel comfortable in the same sweat pants you pad around in at home. |
