THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED JoJo's Restaurant Review:

Pastry chef extraordinaire Mary Jo Thoresen and her partner, chef Curt Clingman, struck out on their own after sterling careers at Oliveto and Chez Panisse. They have transformed a tiny storefront into a very personalized restaurant with a lot of class. Despite being one of the smallest restaurants in Oakland, the dining room's tasteful nuances mirror the quality and craftsmanship in the kitchen. Rich fabrics, dark woods and butter-yellow walls are elegant alongside the crisp linen tablecloths and sparkling stemware. Clingman's appetizers, such as a creamy house pâté and mussels steamed in rosé wine, are outstanding. The flatiron steak comes with fat french fries, while the seafood stew is scented with fennel and saffron. Thoresen is outstanding in the pastry kitchen. Her ever-changing dessert menu has included an orange-vanilla-anise-infused crème brûlée served with tiny macaroons. The wine list is not extensive, but entirely thoughtful.
