Julienne Restaurant is one of our 2012
Hot 10 Santa Barbara Restaurants|
| Owners Justin and Emma West have a marriage made in culinary heaven. Their progressive American bistro rests comfortably on Santa Barbara’s short list of hot tables, offering a contemporary dining experience built upon a foundation of sustainability. The menu is creative without being convoluted, interesting yet approachable. An intentionally limited selection of dishes varies with the seasons. You may find hearty entrées such as crispy Kurobuta pork belly or duck confit with sweet potato, butternut squash, arugula, duck demi-glace and curry oil; or lighter fare including fresh salads and a creative approach to local red snapper: prepared with stewed chickpeas, Tuscan kale, leeks and chermoula. Soups change daily, depending on which ingredients the Wests find at the local farmers markets. Sourcing herbs and vegetables locally and selecting appropriately fished seafood are part and parcel of Julienne’s philosophy, which also includes bottling its own house-filtered water. The emphasis here is clearly on appetizers and entrées rather than dessert; you’ll find just a couple offerings, such as chocolate mousse and crème brûlée, as well as a small selection of cheese plates. The open kitchen and warm, homey dining room add to a topnotch experience. |
