 Owners Pierre Pelegrin and Justine Gilcrease purchased a 1937 house in East Austin and lovingly remodeled it themselves into the French bistro they envisioned. That unhurried dedication to handmade detail carries over to every aspect of this restaurant. Much of the concise menu is occupied by well-executed French classics. Make sure the soupe à l’oignon finds its way into your meal, because the broth’s rich flavor is spiked with an uncharacteristic porto-sherry combination that leaves your spoon searching the bowl for one last drop. Other favorites include classic steak tartare and cassoulet. The wine menu, though not voluminous, is full of first-rate options in a wide range of prices. Service is decidedly unpretentious, even casual, while the ambience is equal parts romance, hip buzz and throwback. The patio includes an area for playing pétanque (similar to bocce) to round out the relaxed French theme. P.S. The kitchen stays open till 1:30 a.m.
