Bulbous rice paper lamps dangling from the ceiling illuminate the dark and sultry interior, where low tables and banquette seating in the intimate dining room lead to a small, equally cozy bar beyond. K doesn't necessarily offer anything too innovative beyond the standard Japanese fusion menu, but it does it well, serving meticulously prepared and presented fresh sushi rolls, hot and cold Japanese-inspired appetizers, and a number of Asian fusion entrées. Among the hot appetizers, the miso black cod is a must: the sweetness of the buttery cod is enhanced by the saké marinade and the miso glaze provides a saltiness that rounds out the dish. In the pan-seared duck, infused with sweet chile sauce, the flavors of Thailand and China are inventively incorporated. The crispy-skinned duck itself is tender and juicy. The addition of sweet potatoes provides a welcome twist.
