| Deep in the touristy yet quaint Scandinavian-themed town of Solvang is this clean and tidy sushi bar and Japanese eatery. Paying homage to the restaurant's name, several Kabuki masks line the walls of the small space and elegant orchids grace the tables. The chef and owner spent many years at Santa Barbara's sushi zenith, Arigato, and he is still guided by a perfectionist’s inner compass and a very sharp knife. Rolls are exacting and beautiful---the Gumbie comes with tuna poke, cucumber and spicy sprouts, while the Autumn has yellowtail, fried crab and mint leaves, all wrapped in soy paper. The gyoza are a bit dry, but the seaweed salad is lovely. |
