 Kaldi's Coffeehouse Restaurant Review: Since this corner coffee shop in the quiet DeMun neighborhood opened in 1994, times have changed for the company. The Kaldi’s brand has become a staple on grocery shelves and at coffee counters across the metro area. But the original location hints at none of this, with its found-art sculpture around the front door, high ceilings and piles of publications. Daytime sees a mix of office workers, families and students from the nearby universities and seminary noshing on egg sandwiches, oatmeal or waffles for breakfast, and a veggie burger, hummus platter or salad topped with fruit, nuts and cheese as the day wears on. Plus, there's always first-rate coffee. Kaldi’s is a micro-roasting leader in fair-trade, organic and single-origin coffees from around the world, but plenty of patrons still opt for basic beans in a straightforward dark Italian roast. |
