THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Kasadela Restaurant Review:

Kudos to this chic little Japanese restaurant for sidestepping every cliché in the book. There's no shoji or bamboo to be found in the stylishly spare dining room; Tom Waits is more likely to fill the sound system than ambient stringed instrumentals; and there's not a piece of sushi on the menu. The three dozen small dishes top out at $10 and feature balanced flavor combinations with tiny strokes of gourmet savvy, from salty-sweet nori seaweed to flash fried and charred Japanese sweet peppers to grilled beef skewers glazed with teriyaki sauce. The owner, Yujen Pan, knows a thing or two about what makes a successful Japanese restaurant: he cut his chops at Nobu.
