Kashmir Restaurant Review: Kashmir combines Newbury Street posh and authentic cuisine to deliver aromatic Indian dishes like malai koftas and paneer tikka masala. Sumptuous hues, pillowed banquettes and table linens, a sunken patio and well-versed waiters make for a sophisticated setting. Like most Indian restaurants, Kashmir focuses on fare from the Northern part of the continent and leans heavily on its tandoor oven. The kitchen is up to the challenge: breads are standouts (especially the garlic naan), be they traditional or flavored with chicken and pesto or potato and coconut. Korma is rich, and the chaat properly zesty. We like the daily specials that might include entrées like mango chicken tikka. In short, Kashmir gets the nuances mostly right --- even though some of the Vogue-toting clientele couldn't care less. |
