THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Kat & Theo Restaurant Review

: Kat & Theo, located in the Flatiron District, is a stunner on the eyes: the quasi-industrial interior is highlighted by lots of exposed brick and metal trellis arches on the ceiling. The open kitchen is helmed by chef Paras Shah, who dished up fare at Per Se and elBulli. Shah’s menu is best described as New American, as it leaps through several culinary cultures (like most of America). Likewise does the wine list with a handful of reds, whites and rosés offered by the glass (a few are affordable while many hover around the $20 mark). Start off with a bowl of soul-warming tarragon-spiked chicken soup before moving on to heartier dishes like the flatiron steak in a sunchoke sauce, about as fine as you’re going to get with this cut of meat. Cod, wading in a flavorful pool of saffron rice sauce, is light and satisfying. Desserts shine even brighter: the pumpkin sundae includes pumpkin-flavored cream and ice cream along with a subtle hint of citrus in the form of pomegranates.
