Serving until 1 a.m. on weekends, this high-tech, high-style restaurant offers a menu of dressed-up truck-stop food, circa 1947, plus hipper fare like seared ahi and a far-from-roadhouse plate of frogs’ legs. In the dramatically stark interior, we like the mural of the boxing match high above the bar. But once you get over the atmosphere, you’ll pay dearly for simple food that is decent without being topnotch: juicy rotisserie chicken, baked potatoes with all the trimmings, steaks, shellfish platters, and plenty of hearty late-breakfast (make that early breakfast) fare. The big, juicy, charbroiled pork chops are terrific, as is the fresh sourdough bread on every table. You can tell this is an industry hangout: there are over a dozen healthy alternative dishes, plus a “Wildly Wonderful Cannes Film Festival Salad” featuring smoked salmon, organic greens and a fire-grilled sourdough spear slathered with duck pâté. |
