Kauai Family Cafe Restaurant Review:

With its austere setting and steam table framing the doorway, this small eatery at the entrance to the ramshackle Coco Palms Hotel proves that looks can be deceiving. Despite expectations, the food is fresh and filled with local meat, fish and vegetables, many of them grown by the owner's family in Hanamaulu. It's a good place to try authentic Filipino food, including pancit, pinakbet, adobo and more traditional dishes, such as fried milkfish, and pork cooked in a thick gravy of its own blood. The menu also includes such local favorites as kalua pork with cabbage, and loco moco, plus daily specials. Most of the business is take-out, though there are a few small tables. Beverages are limited.
