From Route 4, The Keg looks like a rather unassuming local watering hole, so those who motor past without ever venturing inside might not realize that this cozy restaurant’s main attraction is its location overlooking a water hole. The Keg is situated on a small but charming pond, and though you can dine indoors and enjoy the view, nothing beats a seat on the back deck when the weather is mild. From pub food to pasta and pizza, the menu is somewhat eclectic, with the common denominator being satisfying portions and few options for the calorie-conscious. However, Atkins followers can happily select from the low-carb menu, which includes New York strip steak with blue cheese. Head to The Keg after work and share a few frosty mugs of beer and the Deck Combo appetizer sampler---wings, fried mozzarella, jalapeño poppers and onion rings---with friends. Pizzas are thick and chewy---we’re partial to the ricotta-loaded pesto pie, and burgers are piled high with your choice of fixings and accompanied by crisp, curly fries. Though the entrée menu is limited, the selections are diverse: Italian meals, pasta preparations, fish and steak are supplemented by daily blackboard specials.
