Parea is Greek for gathering place. And once you dive into the menu at this Flatiron District Greek eatery, you’ll realize this might be a place you’ll want to gather at more than once. The 130-seat high-ceilinged space, accented with faux-classical columns, makes for a fine venue to sample the rustic dishes. For appetizers, the grilled octopus is done properly---charred on the outside but juicy on the inside---and the baked goat cheese (laced with almonds, apricots and the Greek spirit Metaxa) could easily steal the show. But then there’s the signature dish Yesterday’s Lamb, which as the name suggests, was slowly roasted and marinated the day before, and is served fork-slicing tender. The grilled salmon, sitting in a shallow stew of artichokes, is also a menu hit. The wine list is extensive and includes a few great Greek choices. |
