Kenny & Ziggy’s New York Delicatessen Restaurant Restaurant Review:

Smaller than the original outpost, but with all the wood-paneled charm, big display cases and cast-signed Broadway posters on the wall, Kenny & Ziggy’s West University location offers mile-high pastrami sandwiches, stuffed cabbages, kreplach and bagels smeared with cream cheese and house-smoked salmon. It's hard to find this kind of authentic food outside of New York City, but Ziggy Gruber is a third-generation deli man, and this is the real deal. It’s an ideal spot for a power breakfast, although the portions are huge so you may feel like taking a nap instead of going into the office. Lunchtime is often packed with West U regulars --- a few office workers, lots of retired couples and families with hungry kiddos --- all noshing on giant burgers topped with smoked Gouda or French dips. Dinner fare is even more substantial, think big bowls of Hungarian goulash, an old-fashioned meatloaf platter and the ever-popular prime beef short rib Stroganoff on a bed of egg noodles. Vegetarian dishes and fine salads are also available; we particularly like the club salad topped with fried chicken. Wash it all down with beer, wine or a true egg cream. Try to leave room for a slice of banana cream pie (or take it home).
