THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Kin Shop Restaurant Review:

Chef Harold Dieterle, known for creating elevated American fare, has branched out to offer Southeast Asian cuisine at this popular West Village restaurant. While it’s not the most authentic Thai cooking available on this side of the East River, Dieterle, the season one winner of Bravo’s Top Chef, is at least making Manhattanites think twice about having to hop on the number 7 train to Queens to eat what has always been the city’s best Thai. The jungle curry, for example, loaded with skate, calamari, pickled green peppercorns and a sprinkling of crab paste packs plenty of heat, but the complex flavors still emerge on the palate quite nicely. Coconut milk soup laced with chestnuts and pomegranate melds tastes not often found outside of Thailand. There are also a handful of salads, noodle dishes and stews to consider. Desserts tend to be sticky and sweet at the same time, unless you opt for gelato. The wine list is brief but boasts plenty of nice whites that complement the spicy food.
