Though the commercial bakery is most famous for the puffy sweet bread that is fried up for breakfast, it also creates very creditable breakfast pastries, cookies and desserts. The adjacent restaurant serves island favorites like saimin (seafood noodle soup), kalua pork and chicken katsu. For dessert, try the strawberry napoleon or macadamia torte. Note: There is another branch called The Local Place that offers the same menu in a fast-food setting (18605 S. Western Ave., Torrance, 310-523-3233).

Just dined at this restaurant. will not be back. food is expensive for the quality and quantity, service is poor. after waiting 40 mins to be seated finally, we were anxious to eat, we should have been anxious to leave, the food was served in 2-3 mins after ordering, i guess they were expecting us and had it ready and waiting, the luau combo was cold, dry, bland, the bar b q combo was the worst, i never expected such poor quality in food. the cake everyone raves about is so spongy it bounced off the plate. would have rather been at the Sizzler or elsewhere
