Kingston Cafe Restaurant Review

: Kingston Café offers Jamaican cuisine across from Central Park in the heart of Pasadena. The art-lined restaurant dates to 1992 and resurfaced in 2009 after a hiatus. Chef Hilfor Phillips presides over a menu of classics. Start with hand-held patties or fritters (zucchini or plantain) and transition to hearty plates that come with rice, vegetables and fried plantains. Jerk chicken is sure to clear your sinuses, though you can also score braised oxtail or escovitched fish. Kingston Café has a full bar that specializes in wine and cocktails like the kiwitini. Alcohol-free beverages include sorrel and ginger peach lemonade. Dessert brings tropical rum cake or coconut rice pudding.
