Master Indian chef Kiran Verma dazzled the Indian food cognoscenti with her dishes at Ashiana restaurant in West Houston. In a spot formerly occupied by Bombay Palace restaurant, she brings to the inner loop her fresh renditions of classic dishes paired perfectly with wines. In fact, she sports the most extensive wine list of any Indian restaurant in town and showcases the exciting pairings at wine dinners. The menu features more seafood than most Indian restaurants, including lobster curry; Chilean sea bass with mango chutney; and tiny, tender mussels in white wine-saffron sauce. Fresh sea scallops are mouth-meltingly tender, while meaty rack of lamb tingles with just the right amount of spice. Finish with the pistachio or cardamom crème brûlée, just right and light after a full-flavored Indian feast.

Good but not that good
by TheBestCritic on 03/08/2009

Kiran's is not up to par with the prices they charge and the ambiance of the restaurant. The food is good, but not traditional Indian, it's a fusion of sorts with "light" Indian spices. When you finally get waited on and if the food makes it to the table before it's stone cold and in the same evening, then you're in for a treat. Sevice is absolutely horrible and the problem is Kiran knows it!!! Dr. Sharma is always around to offer wine selections and visit with the regulars, which unfortunatly thinning out due to the service. I like it much better back at Ashaina before she moved. I now frequent Ashaina 5 times to 1 over Kiran's, for the more traditional but gourmet Indian food. Evil or Very Mad
