 One of Kitayama's best features is the immaculately landscaped Asian garden, which sits just outside the tall glass walls. Indoors is a place of calm, too, with traditional Japanese flower arrangements, blonde woods and flowing silks. Newport's business elite shows up for the rather reasonable bento box lunch while well-heeled families come for the dinner scene. Some know better and reserve a table in the main dining room. Others deal with the first-come, first-served order of operations at the sushi bar, which offers super fresh and beautifully presented sushi and sashimi. Cooked entrées arrive in a parade of platters, bowls, baskets and bento boxes. In addition to the full bar, there’s a notable wine list.
