Industrial décor rules this downtown restaurant on the ground floor of one of Washington Avenue’s earliest rehabs. Five years into his successful venture, Pablo Weiss updated the menu and furnishings to soften the modern edges (and attempt to bring down the noise level), but he left alone many trademark touches like the open kitchen, the sweet potato fries and the chicken gumbo. The lower-priced menu is dominated by burgers, panini, sandwiches and a tempting array of sides, with a good version of classic meatloaf in case anyone had doubts that Weiss is going for a neighborhood crowd rather than trying to compete with the more-exotic competitors opening down the street. However, the chef, originally from Hawaii, continues to work his magic on seafood. The bar is a welcoming watering hole any time of day, but if you’re more comfortable in your own living room, Kitchen K delivers from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.
