Kohnami offers desert dwellers an authentic taste of Japan. If possible, try to reserve one of the low tatami tables, separated by bamboo curtains, and have a seat on the polished wood floor --- don’t worry, there are cutouts under the tables for those unaccustomed to cross-legged eating. Once settled, choose from a host of sushi options; the signature Kohnami roll includes fresh water eel, shrimp tempura, and three kinds of flying fish roe; the Cherry Blossom roll combines tuna, avocado and salmon and is topped with a sweet chile sauce; and the Kick in the Nose roll appropriately describes how you’ll feel after your daily dose of Japanese mustard. For a good lunchtime deal, try the bento box special; it includes your choice of teriyaki chicken, beef, salmon, tofu or chicken katsu, and comes with petite portions of California rolls, shrimp and vegetable tempura, rice, salad and miso soup. In warmer weather, sit outside on the Japanese-inspired back patio.
