THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Kokopelli Restaurant & Tequila Bar Restaurant Review:
Don’t expect tacos and burritos at Kokopelli, the restaurant in the former Pearl space steps from Rittenhouse Square. Chef Gina Rodriguez channels the comfort food flavors of her Arizona childhood at the rather spare bi-level restaurant, which brings in a DJ and a lounge scene later in the evening. Start with a chilled sangríta or house margarita made with Patron and fresh orange juice, and then enjoy starters such as ahi crudo on a crisped tortilla with avocado crème and a salad of baby greens with crunchy chayote and pumpkin seeds. The scallops are a must, a silky contrast to a zippy chorizo mushroom ragoût. The chef’s classical French training brings a deft polish to even the simplest braised beef tamale, piquant with pasilla sauce. Flan is always a good choice for a light dessert.
