The popularity of Korean cuisine is virtually unnoticeable in Ventura County. Excluding an occasional passing food truck, this is the region’s only authentic Korean eatery. Singularity, however, is not its only draw. Diners with a taste for bibimbap and bulgogi won’t be disappointed with the Swan’s take on such Korean staples. Sizzling stone bowls with crispy rice sticking to the bottom offer a variety of flavors and meat options. Larger parties should consider sharing grill-it-yourself dishes like jumulleok galbi: boneless beef rib meat in a traditional Korean marinade of soy sauce and sesame oil. Eight side dishes, or banchan, including kimchi and fish cakes, accompany each dish. Desserts include traditional treats like a moist and subtly sweet green tea cake. Located in the back corner of one of Oxnard’s ubiquitous strip malls, the restaurant attracts a mixed clientele who come in regularly for the lunch specials.
