THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Kuna Restaurant Review:

Despite its cramped quarters, tiny Kuna has an immense heart: its service is courteous; its menu, chic; its breads, outstanding; and the ambience, simply cool and funky. What else would you expect to find on U Street, where the beat of the street is laidback and no one bothers about high style? So, where to sit? Upstairs in its loft, tables may be squeezed close, but there’s a sense of intimacy as you mop up splashes of golden olive oil; devour the heavenly, olive-cured pickles; and await your meal. Starters include a unique risotto pancake with the rice grains held together by melted fresh mozzarella, but a less calorie-laden beginning would be the winey steamed plump mussels. Entrées includes vegetarian, meat and seafood pastas, each reasonably priced and substantial enough to rate as bargain dining. Best bet? The fettucine with four cheeses, a subtle blend of sharp and mild flavors that play well with a good red wine. Dessert selections are limited to a chocolate torte and panna cotta with cherries soaked in Chianti, a startlingly delicious end to any meal here.
