THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Kushi Izakaya & Sushi Restaurant Review:

Noble, indeed, are the sushi and grilled meats offered in this high-profile destination. Located in an edgy part of town, Kushi and its young and hungry hordes are helping to turn the Mt. Vernon Square neighborhood into “the” DC place to find fun and food. Despite the noise level and the crowds, the Kushi experience is worth it all. The sushi is unusual, and founded on ultra-fresh seafood that must arrive every hour. The robata grill with wood-smoke that faintly scents the interior turns out meats such as Wagyu strip loin, tender beef short ribs, duck breast, pork belly, and cuts of heirloom chicken. Unusual small plates include Japanese pickles, seaweed salad, and simmered burdock root. Most people dine in groups, which makes ordering in mass quantities appropriate and cuts down on the final bill---which might be rather immense. But if you crave the short ribs, or, say, the yellowtail maki sushi, your best bet is to eat solo. Sharing has its price. But takeout is readily available, so splurge.
