La Bodeguita del Medio Restaurant Review: This cozy restaurant, which fits naturally in the neighborly California Avenue shopping and dining district, is a delight for fans of Cuban-inspired coastal cuisine. Some folks never make it past the restaurant's relaxed bar area, where friendly bartenders mix up the best minty mojitos in town. But there are plenty of reasons to continue on into the spacious dining room. The appetizers tend to be quite good. Try the decadent empanadas that feature savory shredded pork wrapped in flaky turnover pastry shells served with a sweet-and-spicy jalapeño-coconut sauce. The chilled prawns are also quite nice. As one might expect, La Bodeguita del Medio's main course menu is highlighted by seafood offerings, the best of which is the buttery brick-pressed lobster. End your meal with a slice of Key lime pie and an after-dinner drink. |
