| Despite the name, we think you needn't only come here for soup. On the same block as an Alain Ducasse restaurant as well as the scene-y Michael’s, La Bonne Soup is seriously overshadowed. But that’s just what regulars like about it---it’s a place to call their own. There is, by the way, soup here. And, as the name suggests, it’s good. Particularly the French onion, which is served in a traditional mini-cauldron-like pot. But there’s so much more on the menu, which aims at traditional French fare: the steak frites is a decent cut, complete with better-than-average thin, crispy fries; the big salads are a fresh meal for two; and the hamburgers are standouts: we particularly like the bun-less steak hache paysan, which is smothered in garlic and butter. The wine list is small, but generally affordable and sticks mostly close to France. |
