In a city where quality bakeries are surprisingly few and far between, die-hards will happily make the trek from Hollywood and the Valley for a loaf of warm olive bread just out of the LA Bread ovens. At lunchtime, the bakery’s half dozen ice cream parlor tables are always full of families and locals enjoying Black Forest ham or caprese sandwiches or the daily changing, vegetarian soup. Beyond the outstanding breads, including pumpkin, asiago, ciabatta, Russian black and a wild yeast sourdough, the bake shop specializes in German pastries and desserts. Stop in for an apple turnover or poppy seed cinnamon roll on the way to or from work. The café is open all day long and the Italian coffee, an outstanding, low-acid blend, is always hot.
