THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED La Cucaracha Restaurant Review:
We like the homey St. Paul restaurant best of all, but even the more polished downtown Minneapolis location feels like home. The Flores family has championed warm homemade chips (we think they're delightfully greasy) and fresh guacamole back when most people thought Mexican food meant Taco John's. Years later, even though there are better Mexican restaurants around, we remain loyal to La Cuc for the family atmosphere and expansive menu. We like the dark, lightly spiced mole sauce that smothers the tender chicken in its namesake dish and the Los Cabos tacos (made with fish rather than beef or chicken) remind us of a recent trip to coastal Mexico. Tacos, enchiladas, tostadas and burritos can be custom ordered, but we have found them tasting a bit mass-produced in recent years. Better to stick to one of the entrées such Tacho's pollo loco, a grilled chicken breast covered in a hot chipotle pepper sauce that will set your mouth ablaze.
